There are a few things that are pretty important to people who want to work in the magazine business and one of the is seeing the inside of the Vogue offices. When I got my acceptance into Teen Vogue Fashion U I knew that I had to do the tour or else no dice. As I’ve all ready said I nearly missed out on the chance to see the office and I know that a lot of girls were disappointed when they couldn’t do it. I actually caught a glimpse of the coveted Teen Vogue sign whilst attending my second seminar of the weekend which was held in the GQ offices, who share the 9th floor with TV. The excitement of seeing the office was palatable amongst everyone once the elevator opened with us all clamouring to get our photos taken with the sign.
Once the tour began I was surprised at how narrow the hallways were. Then again they were restricted with the many rails of clothes which lined the walls. We were allowed take photos throughout the tour except in the planning room in case we ruined any future issues of the magazine for loyal readers, although most spoilers had been removed. Seeing the fashion and beauty closets was surreal – how much would I love to be let loose in there? We meandered our way through the office getting a sense of where our favourite magazine is made. After being in a number of magazine offices in Ireland I was struck by the size and staff that they had as Irish magazines are done on a much smaller scale- obviously because this is Vogue after all! We also got the opportunity to see Amy’s office, which is a dream. We all stood at the double doors oohing and ahing at the amazing decor. After everyone had trailed off to the next part of the tour I had the chance to get a bit closer which was when I spotted the Chanel doll off to the side. The picture ended up being one of my favourites from the weekend. One of the things that I took away from the tour, and which you can probably see in the photos, is what a cool office it looked to work in. The office is a pop culture haven with tons of posters and quirky signs. It would be a dream come true to work there someday.
That’s all from Teen Vogue Fashion U I’m afraid but I’ll have some posts up on New York very soon.
