Things have been a bit hectic with me lately so I haven’t been able to give the blog as much attention as I would like. I’m kinda an all or nothing girl so if I’m going to post, I have to do it right. I’ve spent a good bit of time thinking about the blog and how to proceed which resulted in a plan of action. Expect a lot more content, a lot more regularly. Most of my attention has been spent redesigning the blog over the past few weeks. Have you noticed? I completely did everything myself but there’s still a few more things to finish, like my header and the tabs bar, but I’m so happy with it. It took a while and a few times there were tears but it was a worth while challenge that I’m so glad I did.
So what else has been going on? I’m hoping to do my MA in September so I’ve been working hard on my application. I know some people are wondering why the hell it’s taking me so long but it’s not a straight forward application. Along with the usually forms, transcripts and references I have to submit 20 pages of my writing-which is terrifying to me. I have trouble letting go of my work. Plus, no one has read a single sentence of the novel I’ve been working on for the past two and a half years so sending off two chapters is hard for me. I am hoping to send it on Monday. Wish me luck!
I’ve also been taking a Freelance Journalism class in The Irish Writers Centre with author and journalist Anna Carey, which I’ve really enjoyed. I’m pretty sure that I learned more practical things from it than during my undergrad. If you’re looking for a writing class in the Dublin area I can’t recommend The Irish Writers Centre enough-take a look at their Summer program here. My last class is this Monday which I’m kinda sad about.
Other things I’ve been up to: I got totally addicted to ‘An Idiot Aroad’. I never watched it when it initially aired but I flicked it on one evening and it caught (and held onto) my attention instantly. I then binge-watched the whole three series on Netflix. I then ordered the book which arrived yesterday. Quite honestly, I think it’s the best travel show I’ve ever seen. It’s hilarious but it gives so much information on destinations. I’ve been trying to decided where I want to go to this year and after watching the show I think I might just have to pay Japan a visit!
I’ve also been cooking up a storm in the kitchen. On a whim my mam and I went to a talk by Susan Jane White in Wexford Library last Thursday which was amazing and tasty thanks to the treats that Susan Jane brought along with her. We ended up purchasing the book, The Extra Virgin Kitchen, and since we’ve been trying out all of the recipes. Normally we just flick through cookery books with the best of intentions but there is something special about this book. I have been quite ill since just before Christmas so changing my diet has become a necessity. I’ll be covering the book, and some recipes, tomorrow.
Anyway, let me know if there is anything that you might like to see on this little blog of mine!
