I’m not really into haul posts as such but I always find blogs and videos on products that people bought in America fascinating, not to mention helpful when I’m compiling lists of what to get. So hopefully I can now return the favour. My main purchases on my recent trip to New York was skincare. My mother is always on at me to invest more in my skin and forget the makeup. Considering that she has uh-mazing skin I’m inclined to take her advice (bush sshh don’t tell her that!).
My first stop was of course the beauty Mecca, Sephora
. I really lament the fact that the UK and Ireland doesn’t have one but maybe someday this will change. Yes, we can get most of the brands stocked in Sephora but of course the one thing that I have really wanted was only sold in Sephora (oh the irony), their own brand eye makeup remover Sephora Collection Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover
. This is the best thing ever! No matter how much I try most mornings I wake up with panda eyes but this easily and quickly removes my waterproof mascara and eyeliner gently. I had to buy two bottles just in case. I also picked by this Rosebud Salve
from the Rosebud Perfume Co. which really reminds me of the Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream, but dare I say better?
I had planned to buy Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream
as I’ve been using their GinZing Energy-Boosting Moisturizer for a few months now. I spotted Origins brand new holiday kit
which not only contained the full size eye cream but the moisturiser, Checks and Balances Frothy Face Wash, Modern Friction Nature’s Gentle Dermabrasion and Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask all for $49.50. Considering the eye-cream costs $30 on its own I just couldn’t say no. I’ve seen a vast improvement in my skin since I started using the GinZing moisturiser and then eye-cream has smoothed out these little annoying bumps that I had around my eyes that other brands just couldn’t fix for me. It was also great to get the chance to try other products as well, which I’m loving. Why I didn’t purchase another set is beyond me.
My mission on this trip was to buy a new foundation. I was torn over Urban Decay’s Naked foundation
and Estée Lauder Double Wear
. In the end Double Wear won and it’s certainly been a good purchase so far. I find that it gives me great, long-lasting cover but that it also gives my skin a lovely look. I was bit bold and decided to splash out on the Idealist Pore Minimizing Skin Refinisher
that I’ve been wanting for years. It’s the perfect base for foundation and makes my skin feeling so silky smooth. I had a really great experience at the Estée Lauder in Macy’s as my lovely sever sat me down, took off all of my makeup and properly swatched my skin to match the right shade to me which is in contrast to my usual experiences where the foundation I’m wanting to try is only tested on my jaw over the makeup I’m already wearing. He also took his time and gave me extra samples. It’s encouraged me to go back to Estée Lauder again.
My other must buy was to repurchase my absolute favourite Stila eyeshadow, Kitten
, which is quite difficult to source. If I’m wearing eyeshadow you can bet it’s Kitten. My everyday look involves a ‘cat-eye flick’ so this champagne colour really compliments it and brightens up my eyes. I sometimes use Stila’s other eyeshadow, Twig
, to add dept. They are generally the only eyeshadows that I use. I have other ones but I just don’t love them as much. I purchased Urban Decay’s Naked 2
pallet at the beginning of the year and I just haven’t really used it (blasphemy, I know) but I have everything I need in these two shades. And although Naked has similar colours it’s a case of close but no cigar.
Rounding off my purchases were gifts for my mam. She’s been lusting after my Benefit Coralista
blush for years so I thought that it was time that she finally had it. I also bought her Benefit’s Eye Bright
because I knew that she also really wanted that since I introduced her to it a few weeks ago. I didn’t buy anything from Benefit for myself because I think I have almost everything
I was pretty practical on this visit and refined my purchases to things I needed or really wanted. I think that this has served me well so far because I’ve been using everything that I bought on a daily basis. Plus my skin looks and feels amazing. On my previous trips to America I got a bit crazy in Sephora because generally cosmetics are cheaper in the US than in Ireland. I made a big saving on a number of things particularly the Benefit products. But if you are visiting America and want to try other products I love Covergirl, Wet’n’Wild and Sinful Colors nail polish, which is so great and cheap. Maybelline also tends to have a bigger range of products than the UK and Ireland so make sure to have a look.
